The Polish Prime Minister stressed that strong and uniform Europe is the key to peace and security at the eastern border.
Any political decision that prevents Europe’s unification on the security, armed and protection of the Polish borders is a manifestation of Russian sabotage. This was stated on Thursday before departure to the EU leaders in Brussels, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Informs Warsaw Newsletter TASR.
The Polish Prime Minister said this in connection with the vote of the MEPs of the opposition parties Law and Justice (PiS) and the Confederation against the European Parliament’s resolutions to strengthen the EU’s defenses. According to Tusk, they voted against the proposal he described as the nightmare of Putin. According to PiS, the proposal weakens the NATO position in Europe and the party called on Poland to adopt the NATO superiority law over the EU in defense affairs.
Have a chance to wash away shame
On Thursday, Sejm is to discuss the resolution of the Civic Coalition Members (KO), which supports the conclusions of the European Parliament Resolution and considers the Eastern Shield program to be crucial for EU security.
Tusk described the vote in Sejm as a chance to wash away those who voted against safe Poland in Europe. He stressed that a strong and united Europe ready to defend its Eastern border is the best guarantee of peace. At the same time, he called on President Andrzej Duda to sign the law as soon as possible to temporarily suspend asylum applications due to the increasing migration pressure on the border with Belarus.
Tusk stressed that at the summit the leaders will finalize the first phase of the Safe, Armed and Single Europe project. He recalled that this process was also possible thanks to Poland’s efforts, especially in connection with the protection of the border between Europe, Russia and Belarus. “I had to persuade many European partners that the continent’s safety depends on how safe our Polish border will be,” the Prime Minister concluded.
