Paulo Vitor Azevedo was sentenced by the Jury Court in Catalan (GO) to 26 years in prison for qualified homicide and concealment of Priscila Brenda Pereira Martins da Silva. Priscila Brenda disappeared in December 2012, after entering the sentenced car in Pires Belo, district of the municipality. The trial was scheduled for February 6, but was rescheduled after one of the witnesses sick.

The defense stated, in a statement, that it will appeal, seeking to annul the Jury Court, alleging torture pointed out by the witnesses in the case. “Thus, the defense will seek in the higher instances the absolute annulment of all evidence produced illicitly as presented in the denunciation of torture, so that a new trial can be performed.

In addition to the appeal, it will also be required at a higher court that the defendant awaits the judgment of the appeals presented by the defense, ”says lawyer Leandro de Paula.

Paulo Vitor was sentenced to 18 years in prison at a trial in 2023, but was annulled because one of the jurors made publications on Instagram in which he expressed his position on the case.

The Court of Goiás (TJGO) announced at the time that the woman posted an image of the victim’s mother using a t -shirt with the image of Brenda and the phrase “we want justice.”

The conduct of the judge, as the TJGO evaluated, constitutes a break from the confidentiality of voting and the impartiality necessary for the judgment, as provided for in the Code of Criminal Procedure.

According to Paulo Vitor’s defense, he was not the victim’s boyfriend at the time she disappeared in December 2012 at 14. “In the procedural records, it is reported that a comprehensive police investigation was carried out, with several steps, including telephone interceptions on the accused’s cell phones.

The investigation has shown that there is no proof that relates Paulo Vitor to the disappearance of the young woman. If the accused is innocent, this will be duly demonstrated to the Jurors’ Jury’s body, ensuring a fair and impartial judgment, ”the defense said.

Paulo Vitor had a temporary arrest warrant issued in December 2013, but was not arrested as he was on the run. In February 2014, he performed spontaneously and the warrant was revoked. In testimony, the suspect stated that he was with Priscila on the day of the disappearance, but the young woman did not get in the car and did not get out of town with him.

Paulo Vitor and his friend, Claudomiro, were arrested in 2014, but were eventually released to respond to the process in freedom until the trial, which occurred in 2023. Claudomiro was innocent.
