The Algarve increasingly emerges as a tourist destination and, especially in the summer months, thousands of tourists from different nationalities choose southern Portugal to spend their vacation days. However, more and more people also end up choosing the Algarve to live and many reformed, Portuguese and not only, choose to pass this phase by the sea, where the sun ‘leaves the street’ over 300 days a year.
This is what happened, for example, with Terry Coles and her husband, who are of English nationality and in 2016 decided to come to Portugal to live. As they report to the British news channel, the couple began to live in the queen’s caldas. “It was very accessible, but for us it was very cold and rainy,” they say.
The rain was the motto for the British couple Ruma to the south, in this case Vilamoura, in the Algarve. In Vilamoura did not rain as much as in the Queen’s caldas, but the “noisy tourists in summer” motivated the couple to move to another Algarve town. “We had made many friends who lived in Tavira, so we decided to move there.”

Tavira was then the fate elected by Terry and her husband, who remain there to this day. Speaking to the same source, the couple praises the city, since they are close to the beaches and the fact that they are on an island makes tourists farther from the city center.
“This keeps most tourists outside the city and outside our lives most of the time, unless we wanted to get on the boat and go to the island,” they underline.
Without many tourists around, the couple also states that “Tavira is the Portuguese community representative of the Mediterranean diet and, therefore, it is easy to eat and stay healthy here.” In the city there are hundreds of restaurants where you can prove the typical algarve delicacies or enjoy the so -called “international dishes”.
