Film arrives on Thursday on movie theaters after years of criticism, from the retrograde role of the dwarfs, to not as white skin as the snow of the main character-and there are also geopolitical conflicts behind the scenes.
The Remake Live-action of Snow White only arrives on Thursday to Portuguese theaters, but has already managed to raise controversy everywhere.
Disney has chosen to modernize the classic 1937 Snow White with a reformulation of the role of the seven dwarfs for a nicknamed “Woke” version that was abandoned: no, the dwarfs have no different heights, genres or ethnic groups as speculated.
But the journey of the main character was reformulated and attracted criticism, as he moved too away from the original story.
And it is this difference in treatment between Snow White and the seven dwarfs that the actor Peter Dinklagewho suffers from dwarfism and makes Tyryon Lannister in ‘The Trones’ War’, criticizes in the new movie.
“It makes no sense to me, because you are progressive in a way and then continue to make that retrograde story of seven dwarfs living in a cave,” he said in one.
Shortly thereafter, Disney sought “members of the dwarfly community” to solve any stereotypes. We will see from this Thursday how this went.
Rachel Zegler as Snow White is also controversial
The choice of Rachel Zeglerof Colombian and Polish descent, to the role of Snow White, also raised debate, according to some, not fit the traditional description of the character, which has “white skin like snow”, hence the name.
The actress came somehow worse things to her side by saying that she saw the movie only once as a child and she didn’t like it for being scary. He also said that the remake now released moves away from the backward idea of the original and portrays it as a leader determined to fulfill the legacy of his late father, rather than waiting for “dead” by the rescue of a prince.
“What I mean is that it is no longer 1937,” the actress in 2022 during the recordings of the film.
“She will not be saved by the prince and will not be dreaming of true love-she is dreaming of becoming the leader who knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, just, brave and true,” he explained.
Political tensions in the cast
In addition to cast and narrative choices, the film has also been involved in geopolitical controversy due to the different political positions of their main actors. Zegler has been openly manifested in favor of a free Palestine, while the Israeli actress Gal Gadot (in the role of the bad queen) and a former member of Israel’s defense forces, has publicly supported Israel since the beginning of the earthly raid in the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 50,000 people.
The actress became the first Israeli woman with star at the Walk of Fame of Hollywood. A few years ago, the plans for a Cleopatra film starring Israeli triggered a heated debate on social networks, with some people insisting that the role should go to an Arab or African actress.
Gadot was not present at the European debut of Snow White in Spain, unlike Zegler.
But Disney is calm. The production of $ 300 million comes to bring the worshiped classic to life, with slight changes that at least make adaptation one of Disney’s most debated projects.
