The Ministry of Justice and Public Security of Brazil is advancing with a project that aims to standardize and expand the use of between the police forces of the country. To date, 20 states and the Federal District have expressed interest in joining this initiative, which will be formalized through an electronic trading session scheduled for March 27. The implementation of body cameras has already shown positive results in places such as São Paulo, where studies indicate a significant reduction in police lethality.

Despite the enthusiasm in much of the country, six states – Amazonas, Roraima, Rondônia, Amapá, Maranhão and Mato Grosso – have not yet joined the project. The reasons for this absence have not been explained, but the introduction of the cameras has generated heated debates in various regions. In an official note, the Ministry of Justice stressed that the notice for the acquisition of cameras, launched in November 2024, has already secured funds for states such as Alagoas, Piauí and Rio Grande do Norte. Another ten states are under analysis by the National Secretariat of Public Security, which will evaluate the distribution of the R $ 155 million available based on criteria such as the size of the police staff and the prior experience with the use of cameras.

In addition to the direct acquisition of cameras, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security is promoting a bid to establish a national price registration minutes. This lending contract will allow police forces to have access to continuous technological updates, ensuring that the devices remain effective and updated.

To date, 21 states have shown interest, totaling a request of 52,558 cameras, of which 2,000 will be destined to the National Force. These initiatives are part of a broader effort from the National Secretariat of Public Security to modernize and make the performance of police forces more transparent in Brazil.
