“The proposal was, in my opinion, very well received, because who will pay this account is who today does not pay income tax,” he said

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Thursday (20) that the processing of the project that (IR) who earns up to R $ 5,000 per month should in Congress must be quiet.

He argued that the text was “very well received” and must be easy to advance, for its nature of tax justice. He also emphasized that after the presentation of the text, the dollar fell and the bag rose.

“The proposal was, in my opinion, very well received, because who will pay this bill is who today does not pay Income Tax” he said in the program “Bom Dia, Minister”, EBC. “We are not charging who pays. The ‘super rich’ who pay tax will not be touched by the measure.”

Haddad rejected the assessment that the measure would have a populist character, arguing that the proposal has a tax justice. He added that there is no “penny” of tax increases, as the government will finance the exemption charging for those who do not pay today.

The minister took the opportunity to criticize opposition to the government, saying that the group did not fulfill the promise of updating the IR table. “You know that even (Jair) Bolsonaro promised to exempt the worker up to $ 5,000 and then disconcerted, after he won the election disconcerted and did nothing. In fact, he did worse. Bolsonaro did not update the income tax table,” he said, stating that “neither the far right” can argue against exemption.

Haddad added that the government has been studying the measure for over a year, at the request of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who said he was not only promised to win election.
