Two students who pretended last December at the University of West Bohemia (LEA) in Pilsen shooting and called “Allah Akbar”, received from the University a warning and will be able to continue their studies. On Thursday, the school spokeswoman Kateřina Dobrovolná said this, saying that the Commission and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering took into account their integrity and study results. Both students are still waiting for the court, informs the TASR rapporteur in Prague.
“The Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, today, on the recommendation of the faculty disciplinary committee, he ordered two students who caused maneuvers at the University of Pilsen on Boroch on 4 December 2024,” says a statement at the University’s website. She also pointed out that she also took into account that the students did not act with the intention of provoking panic and did not want to hurt anyone. “Both expressed their regret over their actions during the investigation,” the university added.
According to Novinky.cz server, this is the mildest penalty from a three -stage penalty range. The admonition is followed by conditional exclusion from school and exclusion. However, both are still waiting for a trial because they are accused of hooliganism, for which they are threatened with two years in prison.
At that time, the incident was reported to the emergency line by a student of the ZČU, saying that he heard the shooting and convening of “Allah Akbar” around the Faculty of Economics. Many police units and also other components of the integrated rescue system set out to the site. The police searched the school’s buildings, but they did not find traces of shooting or injured.
The investigation showed that the convening of Arabic and the sounds of shooting were due to students at the age of 24 and 25. One of them, when leaving the classroom in the corridor, shouted “Allah Akbar” and the other scolded, which seemed to the students in another room like the sound of shooting and called the police.
According to the civil servant, the fear of witnesses was understandable and real for them at the moment. She stressed that the defendant students also acted with full awareness of the December 2023 attack at Karlova University in Prague. The defendants said they did not want to scare anyone. According to their lawyer, this was a spontaneous response to the successful composition of the credit, which they do not consider “too wise” return. According to him, this was also stated in a letter to the Rector in which they apologized for their behavior.
