The mystery about the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines MH370, which disappeared from the radars in 2014, continues to intrigue the world. With 239 people on board, the plane departed from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bound for Beijing, China, but disappeared while flying over the Indian Ocean.

The signs that reactivated the search for the Malaysia Airlines flight after 10 years

After years of fruitless search, the Malaysian government authorized, on Wednesday (19), this time with the collaboration of the company Ocean Infinity.

The new operation will be performed in an area of 15 thousand km² in the Southern Indian Ocean and will last 18 months. The exploration company will only be paid if it can locate the aircraft, which puts an additional incentive for efforts to be intensified.

This new phase of searches arises after the Malaysian government admitting that new evidence, considered “believable”, have been found, although it has not yet been revealed what these clues are.

The previous searches, which occurred between 2014 and 2017 and cost approximately US $ 150 million (R $ 850 million), did not bring definitive answers and failed to find new wreckage or clarify the reason for the disappearance.

Although pieces of wreckage have been found over the years, especially along the back of the Indian Ocean, the case remains wrapped in mystery, with several theories being raised over the possible causes of the accident.

One of the most discussed assumptions is that the pilot intentionally diverted the flight route, an argument that, although backed by some evidence, still lacks definitive explanations.

Other hypotheses include the possibility that the plane has been shot down by a missile, a backing theory in historical cases, such as Korean Airlines flight 007 in 1983. However, details about the nature of these allegations continue to be debated among experts.

The resumption of searches aims to respond to the victims’ families and clarify one of the greatest mysteries of world aviation. “The government is committed to continuing the search operation and providing a closure for passenger families,” Malaysian authorities said in a statement.

Previous investigations in 2018 indicated that the plane’s controls were probably deliberately manipulated, suggesting that the flight was intentionally diverted.

However, it was not yet possible to determine whether the deviation was the result of a deliberate action of the pilot, or if other circumstances are behind this tragedy. The searches continue, and the hope of solving this mystery is still alive.
