After the disclosure of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), this Wednesday (19), that Ednaldo Rodrigues will have unanimous support of the 27 state federations in this year’s election. Thus, he will be the only candidate for the presidency of the main entity of Brazilian football.
Ednaldo Rodrigues has held the position of president of CBF since 2021, after the removal of Rogério Caboblo, when he became interim. In 2022, he was effectively elected.

Shortly after assuming the CBF presidency in March 2021, the Brazilian team played in the Copa America in Brazil. The team led by Tite reached the final, but was defeated by Argentina and got the runner-up.
Just over a year later, the national team went to Qatar for the World Cup dispute. The team was eliminated in the quarterfinals on the penalty to Croatia.
After the World Cup, coach Tite announced his departure from Brazil’s technical command. Ednaldo Rodrigues’ main bet was Ancelotti, Real Madrid coach. The president put Fernando Diniz as an interim while waiting for the Italian, but decided to renew with the meringues.
Diniz’s poor performance caused it to be hired, shortly after the Brazilian Cup was won by Sao Paulo.
It should be noted that it was during the management of Ednaldo Rodrigues that Brazil did not qualify for the football dispute at the 2024 Olympics. But in the Olympics of Tokyo, in 2021 because of the pandemic by Covid-19, the Brazilian team brought gold.
Controversy with FIFA
In December 2023, the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice removed Ednaldo Rodrigues from the CBF presidency. The suspicion was that there were irregularities in the election that took him to office.
FIFA promptly sent a warning that “any influence of third parties” on members of the entity could result in sansions. At the time, Fluminense would play the Club World Cup and were threatened.
Nevertheless, in January 2024, Minister Gilmar Mendes of the Federal Supreme Court reappointed him to the position.
The future
With the scarcity of candidates for the post of president of CBF, Ednaldo will be elected with the support of the 27 state federations. He Inlusive, president of Palmeiras and São Paulo, respectively.
Thus, Ednaldo Rodrigues will be in office until March 2026.
