Several videos show impact of the explosions that occurred 700 kilometers from Ukraine
The sun was starting to get up and, far from Ukraine, about 700 kilometers, a large explosion made the city of Engels and the surroundings. It was the result of a Ukrainian attack on Russia’s most important Air Base, Sratov and Volga River banks.
Videos checked by the Reuters agency, which can be seen above or in this text, show a large cloud of smoke when the sun was still going up. In the distance, a hospital got most of the windows destroyed and there were civilian zone to suffer from the impact of the explosion.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has only confirmed that 132 drones had been slaughtered in several regions, but the governor of Sratov and Engels’ mayor eventually confirmed the attack.
Roman Busagin, who rules the region, said the Ukrainian attack caused a fire base and adjacent homes, even leading to the need to evacuate some locations.
The official did not specifically mention Engels Air Base, but this is the largest base in the area, one of the most important in Russia, as it has the most relevant strategic bombers of the Moscow Army, namely those who can carry nuclear ogives, namely by ballistic or intercontinental missiles.
The basis of Engels, which date of the Soviet era, receives, among others, the Tupolev Tu-160, a strategic bombard with the capacity to carry nuclear warheads.
The Ukraine Ministry of Defense eventually confirmed the attack on the air base, noting that there were secondary detonations of ammunition. Kiev ensures that Russia has used this same air base to carry out attacks against its territory.
According to the Reuters agency, which cites a security source, Ukraine ensures that it has destroyed several guided bombs and missiles on that same base.
Following the attack resulted in about 10 injured, with several residents of the city of Engels found drone wreckage, namely the PD-2 and Liuteyi models in their gardens.
Engels’ mayor said that the state of emergency was instituted, but gave no more details about what was going on in the territory.
Ukraine has already conducted Engels -based attacks, namely in December 2022.
