Sorting waste is an obligation we have to follow for several years. Despite the passing years, there are still a waste that causes a lot of confusion and raises doubts. Where to throw away the used lighters?
Disposable lighters are cheap, made of plastic and when they wear, you must throw them away. Filling lighters are made of more durable materials, but are also more expensive. Among them you will find those filled with gas and gasoline. In each of these cases, the moment we are standing in front of the dilemma: what container should we throw away the lighter? Your first thought, as they are made of plastic and metal, could be a yellow container. This is a mistake.
Where to throw away the used lighter? Never to plastic and metal
First of all, we need to ask you a question: Are we talking about an empty or full lighter? This determines whether you throw it into normal mixed waste.
- Empty and without gas: to a mixed waste container.
- With gas: Collection yard – hazardous waste.
This applies to disposable lighters, plastic lighters, lighters made of more durable materials and popular lighters. The fuel, ie gas or gasoline, is easiest to simply consume before ejection, but unless we are talking about a damaged device. In such a situation, only the second option is possible.
Where to throw away the special gas to replenish the lighter?
If you are using a fillable lighter, a special gas is needed to replenish. Depending on the size of the lighter, this gas can provide from several to dozens of additions. In a metal container with aerosol valve there is a butane or propane-butane. Therefore, empty or empty gas envelope should not end up in normal waste. The same applies to cartridges to gas cookers. Take them to the collection yard, where they also receive hazardous waste.
