The Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo () will hold an audience to discuss the ban on March 13, after a trailer collides with a pedestrian catwalk in Cubatão, on the south coast of São Paulo. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday (26), at 2:30 pm, in the Teotônio Vilela Auditorium, and will be attended by representatives of Ecovias, a concessionaire that manages the highway, and the São Paulo State Transport Agency (Artesp).

The hearing was requested by the Parliamentary Front in defense of Baixada Santista, Vale do Ribeira and North Coast, coordinated by state deputy Lieutenant Coimbra (PL-SP). The parliamentarians intend to charge explanations about the delay in the release of the road, which has been banned for more than 12 hours, and requires a contingency plan to avoid prolonged blocks in similar situations.

“Ecovias needs to clarify why there has been such a delay in resuming traffic and presenting solutions so that this is not repeated. We triggered those responsible to clarify Alesp and implement an adequate emergency plan,” said Coimbra. The parliamentary front is also composed by deputies Caio França (PSB), Paulo Corrêa Júnior (PSD), Solange Freitas (União Brasil) and Paulo Mansur (PL).

Deputies also filed a bill that requires dealers to offer assistance to drivers in cases of interdictions of more than three hours. The text provides for the installation of water support and distribution tents, as well as the availability of secure alternative routes.

“It is not acceptable for drivers to be trapped for hours without information or support. We had reports of drivers who spent 14 hours in congestion, in intense heat, without any assistance,” said Coimbra. The project will be discussed at Alesp and, if approved, will be valid for all highways managed by concessionaires in the state.
