The moment was recorded in video and released by Leandro de Jesus Lima, chief of staff of the vice mayor of the municipality. According to him, the respect of indigenous peoples to fauna was essential for the button to be saved.

“If found by others, it could have been a victim of abuse. We have heard reports of violence against this species in the region, but the indigenous people have respect for these animals,” said Lima.

The Acre Fire Department was not triggered for the occurrence. Boto-corner, present in various rivers in Latin America, plays an important role in the ecosystem, being an essential predator for the balance of aquatic fauna.
