CLOSED HEATROW: ANTITERROISM POLICE INVESTIGATES FIRE IN LONDON

The airport, for safety reasons, was closed on Friday (21), which resulted in the cancellation of more than 1,300 flights across Europe. In addition, 5,000 homes are currently without electricity.

Firefighters reported that the fire is under control, but the situation has had a great impact on the city’s operations. British intelligence service is also monitoring the situation, and the investigation can be reevaluated if new evidence point to any suspicious factor. The anti -terrorism command, for now, stated that there are no indications of crime associated with the fire, but keeps a “open mind” during the investigative process.

At a press conference, the deputy commissioner of the London Fire Department, Jonathan Smith, said the service received more than 200 calls reporting the fire, which occurred in a transformer containing 25,000 liters of cooling oil. The Commissioner stated that while the investigation is still in early stages, detectives do not believe the fire has been caused by a deliberate act.

Authorities claim that the case is being treated seriously but without hasty conclusions.
