Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) said in an interview with CNN Brazil, on Wednesday, 19, that the United States will not recognize the next presidential election in Brazil, if the court prevents the opposition’s participation in the 2026 election. Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is ineligible by 2030 by decisions of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
“I can predict, I hope I am wrong, but I can predict the United States perfectly not recognizing a Brazilian election. And then I would put Brazil yes, the whole country, subject to international sanctions. I finish, the United States, sometimes when it applies these sanctions, it is, the next moment, accompanied by European Union, Canada and other countries around the world.”
According to Eduardo Bolsonaro, “there is no democracy where there is no full participation of the opposition.”

“If they are elections where you take the leader out of the polls, the favorite to win the election, if you take him to trial, the touch of cash, without broad defense, where his lawyers did not have complete access to all the investigation data, among other irregularities that occurred within this process, it is not possible to say that this is democracy,” said the judgment in the Supreme Court (STF) of former President Jair Bolsonaro and allies attempted coup d’état.
The parliamentarian also stated that he considers the mandate definitively, after the license period he intends to take from the House. The former president’s son announced the temporary removal from office, but has not yet sent the request to the board of directors.

“Yes, positive. Cogito. I will only have peace of mind to return to Brazil when Alexandre de Moraes is no longer minister of the Supreme Court or is being put in due place. Other than that, I do not have the possibility of returning to Brazil,” said the deputy in an interview with CNN Brazil, when asked if he could definitely leave the mandate.
Eduardo Bolsonaro stated on social networks that he is persecution and criticized the Supreme Court Minister (STF) Alexandre de Moraes and the Federal Police (PF).
According to the House’s Rules of Procedure, parliamentarians may license, by health treatment, diplomatic missions or particular interest. When the departure occurs in particular interest, as in Eduardo’s case, the license is granted without remuneration. The legislation provides that a deputy can move away without receiving salary for up to 120 days.
