Sweden for the first time deploys Gripen fighters outside its territory within NATO, strengthens the security of the region and supports Poland for its help to Ukraine.
The Swedish Parliament approved the sending of eight Gripen fighters to Poland on Thursday, where they will be deployed within the NATO patrol mission, according to the report of Polish agency PAP reports TASR. The Swedish government announced the posting of Gripen in early March, saying that they will be involved in the alliance operation from another country for the first time.
Although Sweden has participated in NATO patrols in the Baltic Sea, but his fighters have always been sent from its territory to these operations.
Great Polish aid to the Ukrainians
The government’s proposal to send fighters to Poland in Parliament, Sweden, reportedly gained considerable support. MEPs argued in his favor that “Poland took great responsibility for helping Ukraine and was issued by sabotage acts”.
According to PA, MEPs also stated that such a step will strengthen the participation of Sweden in NATO, which only recently entered and will also increase security in the region. The Nordic country became a member of the Alliance on March 7, 2024, recalls TASR.
Sweden will provide Poland with eight fighter aircraft Jas Gripen and 150 members of the staff involved in their service for the period of April and May.
