Flamengo’s opponent, León, Mexico, was excluded from. This is because it is prohibited, by article 10 of the Competition Regulation, the participation of teams of the same economic group. The team is in possession of businessman Jesús Martínez Patiño, also owner of Pachuca, Mexico.

Leon was part of Group D, the same as Flamengo, which has Chelsea and Spered as opponents of Red-Black. The Alajuelense, from Costa Rica, seeks the vacancy based on the criterion of the ranking and limit of non-champions per country. Soon FIFA will officially announce the new participant of the competition.
Notification
The team of the same owner published a statement in which he claims that the club was notified by FIFA about the decision. The club informs that it will appeal in court.
“We are dissatisfied with this decision that we will appeal to the last instance and in the highest instance of the Sports Court, because all the evidence and documentation that proves our administrative and sports independence were presented with absolute timeliness and transparency,” the club wrote.
