The former president (PL) celebrated his birthday in advance on Thursday (20) in a live broadcast, in which he received honors from family and allies. During the celebration, Bolsonaro handed the first piece of the cake to lawyer Paulo Cunha Bueno, who represents it in the state process in 2022. Bolsonaro turns 70 on Friday (21).
The celebration was attended by former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro and Senator (PL-RJ). The children Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) and (PL-SP) participated for video conferencing. Eduardo, who is in the United States, justified his stay claiming to suffer “persecution” in Brazil. Nevertheless, he was not denounced by the Attorney General’s Office in the investigation into the alleged coup plot.
During the transmission, Bolsonaro again criticized decisions of the Federal Supreme Court () related to the case that can make him a defendant. Next Tuesday, the First Class of the Supreme Court will judge the PGR complaint against the former president and seven others for alleged attempted coup after the 2022 elections.
Also on Thursday, the defense of Bolsonaro and former Minister Walter Braga Netto (PL) presented a representation to the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), requesting intervention by the entity in the process that is being processed in the Supreme Court. Lawyers claim that they are having difficulty accessing evidence and documents of the investigation.
According to the defense, thousands of pages and files without direct relationship with the accusations against Bolsonaro were included in the file. “The truth is that the amount of disorganized information camouflages absences while preventing the defense,” the lawyers argue. In a statement, the OAB reported that it received the representation and will technically analyze the requests, treating any violations of free professional practice “seriously and impartial”.
