SP – Lide/Minister/Lewandowiski/Entrepreneurs – Economics – The Minister of Justice and Public Security of Brazil, Ricardo Lewandowiski, participates in a meeting and lunch with entrepreneurs and a debate on public safety and stability for the productive sector, in the event of the Lide, chaired by João Doria, at Hotel W Sao Paulo, in São Paulo, on Monday, January 27, 2025/2025 Press/Estadão Content

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security () issued a note to address a controversial statement of the minister. He stated that the judiciary is required to free detainees whose arrests were made inappropriately by police, emphasizing that “the police have to arrest better.”

“It is a jargon that was adopted by the population, which the police arrest and the judiciary loose. I will say the following: the police arrest badly and the judiciary is forced to release,” Lewandowski said during the opening of the meeting of the Deliberative Council of the Confederation of Trade and Business Associations of Brazil (CACB) in Brasilia.

The statement reverberated badly between police associations and opposition to the government, and the folder acted to soften speech. In a statement, the MJSP reported that “the demonstration occurred in a context of the lack of integration of police information and custody hearings.”

“In this scenario, he said that today there is a difficulty in exchanging information between the security forces of the country and the judiciary, which is intended to solve from the PEC of public security -which is one of the objectives is to standardize and standardize the data produced by police authorities throughout Brazil, qualifying public security actions,” says the note.

“In the minister’s response, it was mentioned that, in many cases, the detainee is presented to the judge at the custody hearing, but, for lack of standardization and sharing in the registration of information, the magistrate does not have access to important data, such as the suspect’s background.”

“It is noteworthy that the minister began his demonstration on the subject extolling the need to value the police, including better salaries, and to better equip the police forces to, among other points, qualify the entire probative process and roar legal proceedings,” he concludes.

Federal deputies, especially from the bullet bench – made up of politicians linked to police forces – articulate Ricardo Lewandowski’s call in the House of Representatives.

The Federal Deputy (PL-SP), a member of the House Public Security and Combating Commission of the House, criticized Lewandowski’s speech and stated that there are articulations in the house to gather signatures in order to call the minister to clarify the subject before parliamentarians.

Federal Police Delegates were said to be “outraged” with the minister’s statements. In a statement released on Thursday, the National Association of Federal Police Delegates (ADPF), the largest entity in the class, said that “public criticisms not supported by evidence and concrete data weaken the joint effort to confront crime.”

“It is only possible to speak of ‘misunderstanding’ prison when detecting some illegality and this is certainly not the daytime reality of the custody hearings held in Brazil,” says the manifestation of delegates
