“We have a deep hope that the three -year war in our neighborhood may soon end,” Slyok said. The Polish President added that the conflict must end with a fair and permanent peace that will guarantee the existence of a democratic and sovereign Ukraine.

Both presidents also discussed the Presidency of the EU Council and the consequences of the Russian invasion. “Russian imperialism must be stopped,” Duda said. He also pointed out the successful cooperation of Poland and Hungary on the Trojomeria and Visegrad Group initiative. The presidents evaluated the results of the past Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council and Duda informed his counterpart about the current successes of the current Polish Presidency.

Polish President recalled the importance of defense

Duda also reminded of his proposal that NATO Member States would invested at least three percent of GDP in defense, and expresses the hope that this topic would be negotiated at the June NATO summit in the Hague. “In the Cold War of NATO, they gave three percent of GDP to defense, and this saved the Western world from Soviet aggression,” the Polish President said in this regard.

The presidents pointed out their good relationships and the Hungarian President recalled that his first journey in office was going to Poland. “I believe that if I will be replaced by a new president in a few months, the relations of Poland and Hungary will continue,” Duda said, thanking Sulyok for acceptance and good cooperation.
