Mexican authorities have known the existence of the farm since September, but they did nothing. It is believed that thousands of people may have died in that place
Thousands of pieces of clothing, clandestine crematoriums, graves and human remains: this was the “macabre” scenario found in a farm with just half a hectare in the Mexican region of Jalisco, one hour from Guadalajara, the Mexican capital.
The discovery of the property – which is being nicknamed “Rancho dos Horrores” – happened last week, when members of the Jalisco Warrior Guerreros – formed by family members of missing – went to the scene after receiving an anonymous complaint.
The property would be used as a military -style training camp for new recruits from one of Mexico’s most powerful organized crime groups, the Jalisco new generation cartel. Young people arrived at the fifth attracted by fake job ads for duties such as drivers, electricians and security guards, with the promise of a payment of four thousand pesos (equivalent to about 183 euros).
However, after they arrived there were never seen again: the training camp became an authentic extermination field. Once on the property, they were without access to mobile phones and personal effects, they were no longer treated by the names and were forced to perform violent military training, many of them ended up being murdered, according to the warrior seekers of Jalisco.

“The skin gets goose bumps to see everything spread across the floor, seeing the bags, the dreams of those young people. Seeing how they ended up there because they thought they could have a better life,” said the group leader who led the searches, Indira Navarro.
Among the items found was a letter that said, “My love if I didn’t come back ever, I just ask you to remember that I love you so much.”
In September last year, state authorities had already investigated the fifth. The operation found two hostages, a corpse, several fragments of burnt bones, weapons and cartridges and resulted in the detention of ten armed people, according to the. However, the authorities did not proceed with the demarches.
Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum has classified the case as “terrible” and accused the state government, controlled by the opposition, to harm the investigation. Now he has ordered a deep investigation with the National Prosecutor’s Office to take over the work.
State authorities stated that “they were unable to explore” the property because it was “very large” and promised to cooperate with the federal authorities.
Mexico Attorney General Alejandro Gertz said he will investigate whether the failure in the initial investigation, not recognizing the severity of the crimes committed there, is due to incompetence or a conspiracy with organized crime.
The case, which is hatching Mexico, highlighted the country’s chronic problem with regard to disappearances linked to drug trafficking. Jalisco is the most missing Mexican state: almost 125,000 officially registered, most of them since 2006, when the war on drug cartels was declared.
