The details of the visit are unknown. The visit came at a time when information about the posting of other DPRK soldiers to Russia came to the media.

Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Šojga arrived on Friday to North Korea (DPRK), where he was received by the leader Kim Jong-un. The goal of Šojga’s visit is unknown, but it is held shortly after the media coverage of the reports that the DPRK recently reportedly sent other soldiers to the Russian army in the war against Ukraine. Informed AP, writes TASR.

The TASS agency, referred to by AP, said that Šojga had handed over an unspecified message from Russian President Vladimir Putin. She did not provide further details of the TASS meeting. Šojgu’s arrival at the DPRK was also confirmed by the North Korean news agency KCNA, which also did not disclose any other details.

Some observers claim that Šojga’s visit could be related to the possible Kim road to Russia. When Putin visited Pyongyang in June 2024 and signed a major defense agreement with Kim, he invited the DPRK leader to visit Moscow.

DPRK Russia significantly supports

AP added that North Korea supplies Russia with a large number of conventional weapons and last autumn – according to representatives of American, South Korean and Ukrainian intelligence services – also sent 10,000 to 12,000 soldiers of the DPRK Army to Russia. At the end of February, the South Korean secret service pointed out that the DPRK apparently sent other soldiers to Russia. It is estimated that they are from 1000 to 3000.

South Korea, the USA and other states suspect that in exchange for the provision of weapons and military staff North Korea from Russia it receives economic and military assistance. Many experts assume that the DPRK is likely to increase its support for Russia to gain additional benefits until the war ends in Ukraine.

Šojga’s visit is also held shortly after Ukraine and Russia on Wednesday, in principle, agreed with a limited ceasefire. For the time being, however, it is not clear when it could come into effect and what goals it should not attack within it.
