This Friday was launched a civic support association for Admiral Henrique Gouveia and Melo, in a candidacy for the approaching presidential elections. It has the support of several important PSD personalities.
Designated “Honor Portugal”in reference to the opinion article written by Gouveia and Melo in the newspaper Expresso in February, whose title was “honoring democracy”, a civic association was launched to give the “necessary comfort” to Admiral Henrique Gouveia and Melo to a candidacy for Belém.
The association is linked to, which the admiral had requested last week to be registered as a mark at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).
Among the supporters of this association are strong names of the PSD, such as the former president of the Regional Government of Madeira Alberto João Jardimthe former Minister of Internal Affairs Angelo Correiathe former parliamentary leader Adão Silvathe mayors of Cascais, CARLOS CAREERSand of Oeiras, ISALTINO MORAISor the former Minister of Foreign Affairs António Martins da Cruz.
There are several social democratic names who prefer Gouveia and Melo in Belém, rejecting support to former party leader Luís Marques Mendes.
Give “comfort” to Gouveia and Melo
Speaking to the Lusa Agency, CATARINA SANTOS CUNHAcouncilor in the City Council of Porto and one of the founders of the association, indicated that the initiative arose “in a spontaneous way and the will of independent citizens and different quadrants that believe that Admiral Gouveia and Melo is the right person to lead the country“.
“We are talking about someone with courage, with the sense of mission and ability to unite the Portuguese around fundamental values such as freedom, solidarity and responsibility,” said Catarina Santos Cunha, who stressed that challenging moments are lived at international level.

Gouveia and Melo was honored
In a statement issued by the Association, Gouveia and Melo is said to be “very honored with this civil society movement”, as he considered that “active citizenship is essential in a democratic society.”

Already this Saturday, to mark World Water Day, the association will organize a rafting event in Arouca that will be attended by Henrique Gouveia and Melo.
The idea of the association, according to Catarina Santos Cunha, is to organize events, namely debates, to take “the admiral to know people who are on his side ”and encourage him to enter the race to the Palace of Belém.
“In addition to wanting to create a space for debate, mobilization and support for your candidacy, we want to lead you to have the necessary comfort to advance, in fact, with a candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic,” he said.
