The Civil Police of Pará announced on Thursday (20) that the Cabanos under-17 coach was indicted after guiding athletes to lose from a rout to eliminate the tournament’s Paysandu. The court annulled the match.

According to investigations by the fan protection police station and major events (DPTGE), the crime is classified as fraud to sports competition.

The case occurred in 2023, during a match in the Paraense U-17 Men’s Football Championship, where the score was accounted for 11 × 0.

Understand the case

The episode took place during the 6th round of the second phase of the tournament, in a match between Tuna Luso and Cabanos. The score of 11 to 0 raised suspicions and led Paysandu to trigger the Civil Police, as the result caused their disqualification of the championship.

During the investigation, several witnesses were heard, including technicians and athletes from the teams involved. The investigations confirmed that the Cabanos technician instructed the players to suffer a rout, ensuring that Paysandu be eliminated.

According to the authorities, some Cabanos athletes refused to follow the coach’s orders and chose not to enter the field.

The practice, known in sports as “delivering the game”, was considered a maneuver to manipulate the competition.

Consequences and penalties

With the closure of the inquiry, the technician was indicted based on article 200 of the General Law of Sport, which provides for penalties of 2 to 6 years imprisonment for crimes of fraud to the result of sports competitions.

In addition to the criminal sphere, the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) decided to nullify the match and recommended liability of those involved.
