Lewotobi Laki-Klaki volcano on Flores Island in Indonesia exploded three times on Friday and spewed ash up to eight kilometers. The authorities extended the threat zone around the volcano and canceled several flights from the Indonesian island of Bali. TASR reports this according to AP report and The Guardian.
After three eruptions at the turn of Thursday and Friday, the volcano remained calm during the day. Indonesian authorities increased the eruption alert to the highest level and extended the threat zone from seven to eight kilometers from the crater.
The residents warned the local authorities in case of threat in case of heavy rains, which can cause local floods and landslides of volcanic material, the Indonesian geological agency said. There were no victims or damage to property.
The Lewotobi Laki-Klaki volcano eruption claimed nine victims last November. The volcanic activity in Indonesia is frequent, the archipelago lies in the area known as the Pacific Fire Circle. There are approximately 130 active volcanoes in its territory.
