Firefighters save sick elderly in an area hit by the flood of the Juruá River, in Cruzeiro do Sul

A 62-year-old man, identified as José Xavier de Oliveira, had to be rescued by firefighters on the afternoon of last Thursday (20) in Cruzeiro do Sul. Resident of Rua Amazonas, in the Cobal neighborhood, he was ill in the middle of the flood that reaches the city and needed medical attention.

Family and neighbors triggered the firefighters, who found his house still partially free from water, but with access compromised by the flood. The Juruá River, which overflowed on March 7, has reached 13.77 meters, leaving several flooded neighborhoods and forcing the removal of dozens of families.

With fever and unable to move, Joseph was rescued by the firefighters and sent to a point of access, where a family car was waiting for him. He received care at the Juruá Hospital, was medicated and has been discharged to continue recovery at home.
