President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will not disorganize public spending to win the 2026 presidential election, if he is a candidate, said Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, on Friday, citing measures adopted by former President Jair Bolsonaro before the 2022 dispute.

“What the Bolsonaro government did in 2022 to reverse Lula’s favoritism was an unimaginable business and we are paying the price of this total disorganization. And it was a political decision. ‘We will prevent Lula’s return, how much do you need to spend?'” Haddad said in an interview with Podcast Intelligence Ltda.

According to the minister, the Lula government still faces Bolsonaro’s consequences of measures in public accounts and suffers from the distrust generated by them.

“Much of the Business Tame distrust is why (ask) ‘will the same thing happen in 2026? It will not happen. The president won legitimately in 2002 and won legitimately in 2006, ”he said, citing Lula’s first two victories, including reelection for the second term.

Haddad also predicted that exemption from payment of income tax for those who receive up to R $ 5,000 monthly will be approved by the National Congress.

For the minister, the problem that the project will face is not the measure itself, but to make those who do not pay tax to pay to compensate for the losses with the exemption.
