The pontiff has not used mechanical ventilation to help with breathing at night since Monday (17.mar.2025), but still receives oxygen through a hose on the nose for most of the time.
There is no official information about when the Pope will be discharged and will be able to return home at the Vatican. Fernández said he would not know if he would be discharged in time for Easter on April 20.
“He could come back, but doctors want to be 100% sure because he believes that, in the short time he has, he wants to devote himself entirely to others, not himself.”said Fernández.
Asked if he thought Francis could resign, Cardinal Fernández said: “I really think no”.
Francisco has had several health problems in the last 2 years and is inclined to have pulmonary infections because it has part of a removed lung.
