Xapuri, a city that marked the history of Acre being the cradle of the Acrean Revolution, symbol of the resistance of rubber tappers and the struggle for environmental preservation, celebrates its 120th anniversary in 2025. Founded in 1905, the city is one marked by carrying famous names of national importance, such as the figure of Chico Mendes, who dedicated his life to the defense of Amazonia and the iconic journalist Armando Nogueira.

Chico Mendes was a global symbol of the struggle for environmental preservation. He dedicated his life to the defense of forests and rubber people, fighting illegal deforestation and the impacts of agricultural expansion in the region. As a trade union leader and activist, he founded the Xapuri Rural Workers Union and was one of the main responsible for the creation of the Forest Peoples Alliance. Unfortunately, in 1988, he had a tragic death in a murder that mobilized Brazil and the world, making it a martyr of the environmental cause.

Armando Nogueira, one of the most renowned Brazilian journalists, widely recognized for his contributions to sports journalism and chronicle, stood out as a commentator, chronicler and writer, gaining a place of prestige in the national journalistic scene. Nogueira has brought readers and viewers deep analysis of football and other sports, with rare sensitivity to capture the emotional and cultural aspects of the matches. Worked on Jornal do Brasil by Rede Globobeing considered one of the most emblematic figures of sports journalism.

To celebrate the date, the special program was organized by the city, starting at 7am, with a civic act in São Gabriel Square, in honor of the city and its residents. Then, from 8am, the square received the Cultural Gymkhana, bringing together the community in playful and educational activities. In the afternoon, at 16h, the Álvaro da Silva Mota Gymnasium was the scene of the Intermunicipal Futsal Challenge between Xapuri and Brasileia, promoting the local sport and the spirit of integration between the cities.
