Behind the scenes, the information circulates that David Alcolumbre, the new president of the Senate, pressures the president for the resignation of Alexandre Silveira, Minister of Mines and Energia
This Saturday (22), the Minister of Mines and Energy,, and the president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP), will embark on Japan as part of the President’s entourage (PT). The arrival in the Asian country is scheduled for Monday (24), at local time. The presidential entourage also includes prominent figures from Congress, such as the senator (PSD-MG), (PP-AL) and (Republicans-PB), reflecting the political and diplomatic importance of the trip.
Behind the scenes, rumors circulate that Alcolumbre would be pressing Lula to dismiss Silveira. The claim is that the minister no longer represents the Senate, since it was nominated by the bench, under the influence of Pacheco, but the political scenario changed. Despite the pressures, Silveira’s resignation is considered unlikely, given his close relationship with President Lula. However, amid a ongoing ministerial reform, the possibility of change is not completely discarded.
If Lula realizes that an exchange in the ministry can guarantee more political support in Parliament, especially with a view to the 2026 elections, Silveira’s position can be reconsidered. During the trip to Japan, political discussions should intensify. Alcolumbre and other Congress leaders may take advantage of the proximity to Lula to discuss interests and possible political rearrangements.
