The War Robots game has always been a hobby I’ve kept on my phones since its launch in 2014, a way to “scratch” the lack of a title of the genre for consoles or computers. Recently, the mobile game universe has been expanded with its new IP, a game that brings the fighting between giant machines from cell phones to computers and consoles.
Maintaining their parts of parts evolution of parts, different strands and weapons, War Robots: Frontiers allows players to get out of larger and better elaborate scenarios, enabling different strategies, combat approaches and customizations. In addition, the game brings a parallel narrative that seeks to expand its universe.
A fierce new world
In War Robots: Frontiers, the player is presented to a brief cutscene showing that the universe and the explorations for resources continue to expand, with battles occurring on planets of the system known as Wild Ten. As a result, the search for strand pilots has intensified, allowing anyone to try to enlist.
Each season promises to expand the narrative of this constant battle, featuring new legendary pilots and striking strands. Currently, the game has only three star pilots and their machines modified. Overall, it does not bring a remarkable story, but it tries to soften the tone of being a mercenary in this world, unlike titles such as Mechwarrior and, which are more explicit about the implications of serving a overrend and its interests.
Originally, in season 0, War Robots: Frontiers featured heroes Marcus Shedd, Kate Sinclair and always. With the arrival of the first season, Idy Demerost was added, the same character that appears on Cutscene. Each hero pilot, as well as ordinary pilots, has five levels of skills, which can be improved through the experience gained on the battlefield. The difference is that their unique skills are significantly more powerful than ordinary pilots.
In addition to the new hero pilot, season 1 brought the new unusual lock called Cyclope, as well as a new game coin called the form, used only to make exchanges on the items available on each of the three battle pass tiers. The economy of the game follows a common pattern: there is the default currency, used to buy basic items in the store; the premium currency, called Warpreals, acquired by microtransations; and the scrap, used to upgrade on the strands.
The battlefield is now another
After getting used to the introduction, menus and movement and combat tutorial, the player can start looking for matches. Initially, only quick and common matches are available, and it is necessary to reach the account level 7 to participate in the Ranked Tortuga matches, and unlock your own titan, a novelty compared to the mobile version of the game.
The battle modes are very similar to those of the mobile version: the knockout, where each team has a number of attempts equal to the total of strands that players have in their hangars (usually five per player); The fold battle, where it is necessary to control the largest number of fold portals compared to the enemy team; and the mode of domination, where the first team to reach 30 eliminations wins.
The player has access to separate parts of the strands, such as torso, legs and the right and left shoulders, plus two to four weapons, depending on the model. It is possible to set up a common model using all parts of a specific strand, or create a hybrid strand, combining pieces and weapons of different models.
The strands follow four main categories: attack, defense, ambush and strategy. In War Robots: Frontiers, a good synergy between these categories can guarantee victory. Strikers deal large -scale damage, ambusators end damaged enemies, strategists attack at a distance, and defenders protect bending portals or absorb large amounts of damage.
Interstellar spending
Buying extra pieces, weapons and skills can be a great advantage on the battlefield. There are equipment called equipment supply, which helps to recover shield and fuel, and shift equipment, which ensure temporary advantages such as infinite ammunition or the ability to blind opponents. However, this system also brings one of the most dull and demanding parts of the game: parts micromannate.
Each piece of the lock can be improved up to 10 times in exchange for scrap or special coatsions, obtained by completing daily or business missions. Although not difficult, this process can become tiring, as eventually you will exchange the robot and its pieces for higher level versions and better attributes. In addition, the scrap is a scarce resource and can be acquired via microtransations, a common tactic in online games. It is not mandatory, but it serves as a convenient shortcut.
Since its season 0, the game has included several items acquired for microtransations, such as heroes and locks similar to free, but with slightly changed status. This can provide a great performance boost for certain players, making the game somewhat unbalanced. A fairer alternative would be just a skins store, as in many other games.
This monetization model is not surprising, but it still creates a certain imbalance in competition. After all, it is frustrating to face a familiar lock, just to realize that it has an extremely reinforced fuselage in the hands of a low -level player.
Bullets fly among the stars
War Robots: Frontiers is an excellent evolution compared to the original mobile title, bringing heavier robots, more realistic movement and shots that convey the expected impact of heavy weapons. Even with few game modes and the ability to find players who have invested real money in their locks, it is still possible to turn the game with a good strategy and a well -adjusted lock.
The graphics and soundtrack are satisfactory, providing a pleasant audiovisual experience. Some of the robots have visible damage to their fuselages after being considerable impacts. In addition, there is no healing mechanics: once damaged, the player will hardly be able to recover the integrity of his pieces, just restoring the shield after stood still for a while.
The game offers a variety of weapons, such as precision rifles, shotguns, flames, machine guns and weight launches. Each robot model can equip only one type of weaponry, making hybrid strands an interesting option to surprise enemies. For example, it is possible to combine machine guns to destroy shields and then cause great missile damage. However, it is necessary to manage the weight and power consumption of each piece not to exceed the limits of the lock.
War Robots: Frontiers is a great choice for those looking for fighting between robots with more “realistic” physics, in contrast to the anime robots. The game represents a significant advance in relation to its modest origin on cell phones, although its aggressive monetization can ward off some players.
