Argentine families consumption expanded 2.9% in February, compared to the same period of 2024, according to the Chamber of Commerce and Services Argentina (CAC).
In the first two months of the year, the indicator accumulates rise of 3.1%, which, according to CAC, signals an “optimistic scenario” for the country. The bimonthly high is unprecedented in the management of Javier Milei.
“This occurs in an economic scenario in which inflation, after the drastic drop recorded over 2024, experienced a slight acceleration in February, mainly pulled by a considerable increase in the price of meat,” the House wrote.
Argentina’s consumer price index ended February up 2.4%, accelerating compared to 2.2% in January.
However, at the accumulated 12 months, cooling compared to 84.5% in January. With the result, the index reached the lowest level since June 2022, when it was 64%.
The CAC points out that the income of Argentine families follows a trend of discharge, growing above inflation, which should boost consumption in the coming months.
“Nominal stability plays a fundamental role in stimulating the offer of financing for both consumer goods and durable goods,” he said.
“In short, mass consumption continues its recovery, while the consumption of durable goods is increasing strongly. This dynamic represents a change in the structure of families consumption, migrating more to durable goods facilitated by credit than to everyday consumer goods. With the expectation that available income will improve this year, change in consumption patterns should deepen.”
