The Brazilian João Fonseca is experiencing great rise in the ranking of ATP. Carioca started the year outside the top 100, but now it’s the 58th. He reached the position after a victory over French Ugo Humbert this Saturday (03/22), 2 sets at 0 (6/4 and 6/3), in a match valid for the 64 -end phase of Miami Masters 1000.

João Fonseca arrived in Miami as 60th place in the ATP ranking, but climbed his position after two triumphs in Miami. In the debut, the carioca beat the American Learner Tien by 2 sets to 1.

The triumph over Ugo Humbert made João Fonseca, 18, reach his highest place in the ATP ranking so far. The debut victory had not accounted for points, as he defended 44 from Challenger 75 from Asunción 2024. The result of the debut had given 30 points. Thus, 14 to defend.

Already this Saturday, João Fonseca added 20 points when surpassing Ugo Humbert, going to 50 accumulated and being +6 in the account of the results of the last 52 weeks. Now, the Brazilian has 961 points in the ranking.

The ranking leader is Italian Jannik Sinner, with 10330 points. He is 23 years old.

ATP Finals

  • 200 points for each victory obtained in the round-robin phase
  • 400 points in case of victory in the semifinal

The points are cumulative, that is, an ATP finals champion without losses can reach 1,500 points

Qualifying
Male professional tournaments give points in case of victory in the first round of QUA in some cases:

  • Grand Slam: 8 points get lost in the 2nd round
  • Masters 1000: 8 points get lost in the 2nd round in 48 or 56 keys
  • ATP 500: 4 points get lost in the 2nd round in keys of 48
  • ATP 250: 3 points get lost in the 2nd round in keys of 48
