Civil Protection registers 40 occurrences until 10:00 in mainland Portugal

Civil Protection registered this Sunday, between 00:00 and 10:00, 40 occurrences related to the passage of the depression Martin in mainland Portugal, much lower than the recorded in recent days.

“The situation is practically normalized,” the commander of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority () told Lusa.

According to the official, “the land remains flooded and some trees end up days later,” explaining the occurrences that were recorded tonight and that are related to depression, despite the improvement of weather conditions.

In total, Civil Protection registered 12 tree falls and three declines of structures across the country. The region where the most occurrences were verified, like the last days, was Greater Lisbon, with eight occurrences, followed by Coimbra, with seven, and the Porto Metropolitan Area, with five occurrences. The West Zone recorded four occurrences, Algarve had three and Setúbal registered two.

The 40 occurrences do not include the city of Lisbon, since the Lisbon Firefighters Shoes Regiment does not report the data to the Anepc. To Lusa, the second -class deputy chief of the Lisbon Firefighters Regiment Paulo Cochinho said that “tonight was not registered relevant occurrence”, in a total of eight occurrences. “The situation is much calmer,” he added.

The records made in the city of Lisbon are related to “outstanding vehicles, water closure, people inside elevators, and unresolved occurrences were recorded” with the passage of Martinho Depression, the commander of the Lisbon Firefighters Regiment was also explained.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the two most intense days of the passage of the depression Martinho, Anepc accounted for a total of 8,600 occurrences in mainland Portugal.

The passage of strong rain, wind and bustle of strong maritime, caused thousands of occurrences on the Portuguese continent, mostly trees and structures, especially in the early hours of Thursday, when orange meteorological warnings, the second most severe level.

Roads, ports, railways, public spaces, housing, sports equipment, vehicles and energy and water services were affected, especially in the regions of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, Center and South, with a serious injured and close to a dozen minor injuries.

On Wednesday to Thursday, the strong winds helped propagate about half a hundred rural fires in Minho, without registering victims or dwelling damage, in a time not favorable to fireworks.
