The egg smuggling, a shortage product in the United States and with a shot price, is already higher than drugs in one of the borders between Mexico and the US.

According to data from the US authorities, the Seizures of smuggled eggs from the city of Tijuana, Mexico, for San Diego, California, increased 158% this month, compared to October last year.
O increase has made the number of seized eggs over ten times the seizures of Fentanilan opioid that kills thousands of people every year in the US that arrives in the country through Mexico, where it is produced.
Since October 2025, police from this specific border have made 350 drug seizures and more than 3,700 bird -related products.
The reason is the high prices and the scarcity of eggs in the United States due to aviary flu. The H5N1 virus has decreased nearly 123 million chickens, turkeys and other birds in 49 US states since the outbreaks began in 2022.
Birds are shot down to prevent increased contamination, resulting in a decrease in egg production and increasing prices for supermarkets and consumers. In December last year alone, about 13 million birds died from the disease, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Just to get an idea, the Egg price in the American market more than doubled in a year.
But in the case of smuggling, US authorities warn that the cheap can be expensive: first, because the fine for illegally entering eggs or birds in the country can reach $ 10,000.
Another issue is the risk of contamination as these products do not undergo health inspections.
