The tennis player João Fonseca, 18, subverted expectations on Saturday (22) by defeating Frenchman Ugo Humbert, number 20 of the world, 2 sets to 0 (6/4 and 6/3 partials) in Masters 1,000 of Miami (USA).

Current 60th place in the ranking of ATP (Association of Professional Tennis players), Fonseca came from Vitória suffered in the first round, against the American Learner Tien, during which he was sick but got the turn by 2 sets to 1.

This Saturday, however, the young Brazilian had cold blood to break his opponent’s withdrawal in the first game of the match and manage the advantage in the early stage, even when the French head of key 19 of the tournament came to vary further his withdrawal, trying to destabilize him.

Fonseca was able to close the first set in just 33 minutes, without having the withdrawal threatened once, having won 100% of the points he played with his first service and 60% (29 of 48) of the total points.

The second step began more balanced, with quick and more dilated games. The Brazilian, however, continued to bet on his first service and aggressiveness and managed to break the French in the fifth game, to 3-2. The left -handed Humbert could still hold the service once again, to 4-3, but Fonseca imposed on the last games and took the partial 6/3.

The rival, champion of the ATP 250 Marseille in February, had defeated Fonseca in the only previous match between the two, in January, during the meeting between France and Brazil in the Davis Cup, by 2 sets to 0.

Now, the Brazilian awaits the winner of the confrontation between Australian Alex de Minaur, number 11 of the world, and Chinese Yuchaookete Bu, 69th.
