Pope Francis was released from the hospital after five weeks of hospitalization with bronchitis and pneumonia, he continues home treatment in the Vatican.

On Sunday after more than five weeks, Pope Francis was released from Gemelli Hospital in Rome for home treatment in his residence in the Vatican. Previously, he spoke to the faithful and blessed them. According to the AFP report and Sky News, TASR reports this.

The Pope showed up on the hospital balcony before leaving. “Thank you all,” said František sitting in a wheelchair. He waved the people under the balcony and then blessed them.

The eighty -eight -year -old Pope was hospitalized at Gemelli Hospital in Rome on 14 February with bronchitis, which later grew into two -sided pneumonia. Since then, the Pope has overcome several respiratory crises and blood tests in February have found “initial renal failure”. A week ago, however, the Vatican informed that he was no longer in danger of life.

The Vatican announced on Saturday morning that the Pope will appear in public for the first time since hospitalization, when after noon prayer the angel of the Lord greets the believers from the window of his room in the hospital and grants them a blessing. The Pope usually prays on Sunday with believers on the St. Peter’s Square. However, he missed this traditional prayer for health problems since February 9.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni on Saturday night confirmed this plan, saying that after a brief greeting of the believers from the Pope’s hospital “as soon as possible” will be taken to his residence in the House of Saint Marta, Ansa reported. After being released from the hospital, Francis will provide medical care in this Vatican residence.

The Vatican also published the sound message of the Pope

The Vatican regularly informed Francis about his health from hospitalization. During Pope’s stay in the hospital he published only one of his photographs. The shot from last week, taken from the side, captures him sitting on a wheelchair in white clothing and with a stole, as he looks at the cross placed on a simple altar in a quiet prayer. Previously, the Vatican published the sound message of the Pope, in which he thanked for prayers for his healing.

Francis, who has been the head of the Catholic Church since 2013, has been treated several times for respiratory diseases. In recent years, he has also undergone surgery of rupture and colon. Due to knee pain, he also uses a wheelchair. This last hospitalization was the longest during his 12-year pontificate.
