Regular pulse measurement helps control heart health and detect problems in a timely manner. The cardiologist named the indicators that should be followed to maintain a pulse, to live a long and healthy life.
Why is it important to measure the pulse?
Rohin Francis said every adult should know their blood pressure and heart rate at rest.
The lower heart rate means a healthier heart and a lower load on the cardiovascular system. It can also reduce metabolic rate by slowing the body’s aging process.
The heart rate should be at rest at rest from 60 to 100 beats per minute. However, this “normal” range may vary depending on factors such as age, lifestyle and overall health.
Medical care may be needed if the heart rate drops below 60 beats per minute, then bradycardia occurs. However, this can also be a normal range for athletes.
Conversely, it is a state where the heart rate at rest exceeds 100 beats per minute, which can be caused by certain diseases.
To determine your heart rate, you can buy a monitor or simply check the pulse and count how many times your heart is beating in a minute.
“Before counting, sit quietly for 5 to 10 minutes to make sure your heart is at rest,” the doctor said.
How to measure the pulse correctly?
It is most convenient to measure the pulse:
- wrist (radial artery) – Place two fingers (forefinger and large) on the inside of the wrist, just below the thumb base;
- neck (carotid artery) – Place your fingers on the lateral part of the neck, near the throat;
- incense or elbow bending – suitable for measuring children or in special cases.
To count the beats:
- Press lightly to feel the pulsation;
- Count the beats in 60 seconds or in 30 seconds and multiply by 2;
- For a more accurate result, measure at rest, at the same time of day.
It is best to measure the pulse:
- morning after waking up;
- before and after exercise;
- feeling dizziness or weakness.
Additional tips:
- Regularly measure the pulse to monitor your heart health.
- Write down your pulse readings to compare them.
- If your pulse readings are unusual, consult your doctor.
- Keep a healthy lifestyle to maintain heart health.
It is important to know your pulse readings so you can take care of your heart health.
