Artist Hubert Schmalix died at the age of 72

Graz / Los Angeles – his monumental work is currently covering one of the three pavilions that will be guest at Vienna’s Heldenplatz until the end of March. They just opened Schau at the start of this year’s Styria. One of them is spanned by a colorful plane that has been printed with comic figures, which Hubert Schmalix has designed digitally. In theatrical gesture, its formally reduced bodies are said to remind emojis. Although the Styrian artist recently went into new realms, his strongly contoured and color -intensive style remains unmistakable. Now Schmalix died in Los Angeles at the age of 72 after a serious illness, as his family announced on Monday.
