Dilma is reelected for Brics Bank after Putin's endorsement

Former President Dilma Rousseff was reelected to command the Novo Development Bank (NBD), known as Banco do Brics. The petista’s continuity involved the endorsement of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the country was responsible for the appointment.

Dilma assumed the presidential presidency in April 2023 with a scheduled term of office in July this year.

Still in 2024, Putin defended the extension of Dilma’s mandate at the head of the institution. Russian President considered that with restrictions on the country due to the Ukraine war could compromise the performance of a Russian in the bank.

Dilma’s continuity in the role is also a gesture to Brazil, as well as a solution to the Russians, which may aim to assume the presidency later, when sanctions may no longer be in force or the issue of war in Ukraine has been overcome.

Putin has also praised the driving of the Brazilian in the bank. In June last year, Dilma was with the Russian President in St. Petersburg. At the time, he congratulated her on the bank’s “progress” in the current management.

In the X (former Twitter), Minister Gleisi Hoffmann of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, congratulated Dilma for continuity in office. “Congratulations, President Dilma Rousseff, for the renewal of the president of the New Development Bank. Under his direction, the Bank of Brics has been playing an important role in development.

The president’s president and vice presidents of Banco do Brics is defined in a turnover between the founding members (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). The bank was formally created in 2015 and finances infrastructure and sustainable growth projects in the member countries.
