In August 2023, viral publications began to emerge on what many consider to be the “largest warehouse of Portuguese dishes sold to weight”. Social networks quickly began to praise the “different”, “no defects” and “very varied” ceramic of then -well -known Cakus Outlet, a brand that would later become Rebranded to Òkilo, and sell dishes for € 3.5.
After the success of the brand’s first physical space, Òkilo expanded across the country, with openings in various locations, including Greater Lisbon, in July, and Algarve in November. The brand has attracted thousands of people, many of whom travel long distances to visit the stores and discover the vast offer of ceramic crockery.
Rebranding and New Store concept
With the separation of the founders and difficulties in the issue of registration of the name, the need for a rebranding arose. The new name Òkilo, which emerged to continue the concept, also brings with it a new store format, now in the capital.
New store in Loures
The new store opened doors last Saturday, March 22, in a larger space and closer to downtown Lisbon, located at John Stoop Street in Loures. This new warehouse replaces the previous space located in Alverca. The concept, however, remains the same: all articles are sold to weight, with a single price of € 3.50 per kilo of dishes.
Carlos Santos, responsible for the new space in Loures, explained that the goal is to maintain product quality and affordable prices, while providing more premium space to customers. “We want people to enter the ceramic world,” said the owner.
More product diversity
The store now has an area of about a thousand square meters, offering greater diversity of products thanks to partnerships with new Portuguese dishes. “Each store will have at least 500 square meters, and many halls full of dishes,” adds Carlos Santos.
Exceptions for the sale to weight
However, there are some exceptions, such as cups of coffee, which are not sold to weight. Only 10% of the articles are sold to the unit, and “are first and without defective articles,” explains the official. Small cups, for example, are personalized and are available at 2 € each.
We recommend:
Development of its own brand
The expansion of product supply also includes new articles, such as traditional Terracotta pigs, which have not been available so far. The brand is also working on the development of its own line to offer more affordable products without compromising quality.
Store growth and renewal objectives
The Òkilo stores have a great demand, and in Alverca they received between 3,500 and 4,000 customers per month. The expectation for the new store is to increase this number, with the change of a counter with two boxes to a space with two counters and four boxes.
Offer of high quality ceramic articles
The concept of the store remains the same, with the offer of a wide range of dishes, from crossings to mugs and bowls. The main advantage of the store lies in the fact that it offers high quality ceramic products at much lower prices than the original market values.
Partnership with Nespresso and space for children
The purchase experience is now even more attractive, with a partnership established with Nespresso. The store includes a coffee machine and several sofas where customers can relax while enjoying a drink. In addition, there is a space dedicated to children so that younger ones can also have fun while parents make their shopping.
Carlos Santos reveals that most Òkilo clients are women, representing 85% of the public. The brand aims to continually improve the experience for this audience, ensuring that all family members, including husbands and children, can also enjoy the visit.
Renewal of brand identity
According to the new store in Loures represents a new concept for the brand, and this renewal will progressively be implemented in the other stores of the chain. The next step will be the remodeling of Esposende space, with changes scheduled for June, while the Algarve awaits the definition of a new location.
Expansion objectives and proximity to customers
The goal of Òkilo is to create a chain of stores that are easily recognizable, with the same identity and with a two -hour interval between each point of sale. This will allow customers from all regions of Portugal to easily access stores and explore the various options available.
Attraction of visitors from all over the country
Currently, Òkilo receives visitors from various parts of the country, who expressly travel to know their offers and the philosophy of sales to weight. To see some of the pieces available on the new warehouse, just consult the store photo gallery.
