Novak Djokovic said that pursuing the world’s number one position in the ranking is no longer his main goal and the 24 times champion of Grand Slam will be happy to win tournaments in the final stretch of his brilliant career.

Djokovic spent more than 400 weeks in first place and is now in, but the 37 -year -old has not shown that he cannot be discarded and won the record of 411 wins on Sunday (23).

A 6-1 7-6 (1) win in the third round over Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli at Miami Open also put Djokovic a more step. But the Serb said the top of the ranking doesn’t matter so much.

“If it’s a consequence of great results and titles that I earn in a season, then that’s amazing. But this is not my goal,” Djokovic told reporters.

“My goal is to be able to play my best sneakers on the Grand Slams and the tournaments I participate in. My schedule has been revised, so, obviously, I’m not after classification points. It’s different nowadays, perhaps, than it was a few years ago [ou] In most of my career, to be honest. I am happy to win a Grand Slam and a big tournament instead of reaching number one. Now this is more important to me. ”

With 109 and 103 are the only men with the most titles than Djokovic, but he said that climbing the top of the list can be difficult.

“It would be definitely amazing to reach this record,” added Djokovic. “Connors is someone I really admire and respect. He always supports me a lot in public, I’m grateful for that. It would be amazing. But again, it is probably harder to achieve this today for me than maybe it was a few years ago. I will step by step. I will not know how long I will compete. But I’m still having fun when I play well.”
