The president of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), Ednaldo Rodrigues, should be reappointed in office in elections scheduled for this Monday (24) with the broad support of the state federations, maintaining a tradition that has been coming since the 1980s.

The 27 Football Federations are the Faithful of the Balance to define the president of the CBF. In order to launch the candidacy, it takes the support of at least four federations and four clubs from series A and B.

In addition, the vote of each federations has three weight in the elections, against weight two of the 20 Serie A clubs and weight one of the 20 Serie B clubs. Federations therefore have 81 points against 60 of the clubs.

Historically, the presidents would raise sufficient support from the federations in the months preceding the election, making the claim a mere formality. When launching his plate in search of reelection, Ednaldo was supported by the 27 federations and 26 clubs.

The last time the CBF had two competitors in the dispute was in 1989, when Ricardo Teixeira defeated Nabi Abi Chedid, then CBF deputy.

Ronaldo Nazário even tried to put herself as Ednaldo’s opponent in this year’s elections. In looking for the federations and finding 23 closed doors, however, the former striker was forced to give up the candidacy.

“I know it’s hard for hell, but I didn’t imagine it was impossible,” Ronaldo said in an interview with Charla Podcast. “The system really … it doesn’t let anyone come in. So much so that historically the CBF has never had an election with two candidates. Who is in power reelected or elects the successor.”
