Minister Luiz Fux of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) asked for a view (more time for analysis) and suspended the trial of the hairdresser Débora Rodrigues dos Santos, accused of stinging the phrase “lost, Mané” in the court statue, which is in front of the court building during the scammers of January 8, 2023.
There is no date for the resumption of the vote. The Supreme Court’s Internal Regulations predicts that the Minister who asks for a view must return the process for judgment within 90 days or the case is automatically released to be included again on the agenda.
To date, two ministers have voted in favor of the conviction – Alexandre de Moraes (rapporteur) and Flávio Dino – 14 years in prison in closed initial regime.
Deborah has been arrested at the Rio Claro Women’s Penitentiary, in São Paulo, since the eighth phase of Operation Lesa Fatherland, triggered by the Federal Police in March 2023. The operation investigated the radicals and financiers of vandalism acts. In testimony, she confirmed that she vandalized the sculpture with red lipstick.
In his vote, Alexandre de Moraes stated that images of the acts of January 8 prove that Deborah demonstrated “pride and happiness in the act of vandalism that had just practiced against sculpture maximum symbol of the Brazilian judiciary.”
“The defendant adhered to criminal purposes directed at an attempt to break institutional rupture, which would lead to the abolition of the democratic rule of law and the deposition of the legitimately elected government, whose materialization was operated on 8/1/2023, through violence, vandalism and significant depredation to public heritage,” Moraes wrote.
