Israel has killed two Palestinian reporters in Gaza on Monday, which raises the number of informants and media workers who have died in the strip in the present war, according to data from the Press Office of the Hamas Government. First he has lost his life Mohamed Mansour, of the Palestine Today Canal, when his apartment in the city of Jan Yunis (southern enclave) has been bombarded. Next, the reporter Hossam Shabat, from the Catarí to Jazeera, has died when the vehicle in which he moved in the north of the strip was reached by an Israeli projectile.

In 2024 the largest number of journalists killed in the world was reached, with, of which, according to the committee for the protection of journalists (CPJ) presented last month.

Hossam Shabbat is part of a list of being “terrorists” as members of the armed arms of Hamas and Islamic jihad. Last October, the Army published data obtained by secret services such as telephone numbers or admission dates in the group or battalion to which they allegedly belong, with which they try to support those accusations. The television network rejected them “categorically” and spoke of “manufactured tests,” according to a statement. “These accusations are part of a pattern of hostility towards Al Jazeera, derived from its unwavering commitment to transmit the truth about Gaza and other places,” added the text.

At least four other reporters from the Catarí channel have died since October 2023 under attacks of the occupation troops in Gaza, where Israel prohibits access to informants. These are the Samer Abu Daqqa cameramen, Ahmed al Louh and Rami to Rifi and the editor ismail to Ghoul. The head of the Jazeera office in Gaza, injured in the attack in which his partner Daqqa died, has lost his wife, three children and a grandson under the bombs.

In addition to being the target of the attacks in the strip, the fence has also been narrowed throughout the conflict over other offices of this chain. The government led by Prime Minister Benjamín Netanyahu has already ordered to close last May its offices in East Jerusalem and administrative capital of the West Bank, both Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation.

On February 11, after allowing Israel the transit to the Gazatis from the south to the north, Hossam Shabat published in his profile of the social network X (formerly Twitter) a video with the reunion with his mother after 492 days separated by the war. His profile, promoted by the great audience of Al Jazeera, has been one of the most influential and followed during the contest before the informative lock imposed by Israel in the main scenario of the war.
