The new Israeli operation in Gaza brought the death of 51 Palestinians in 24 hours, with the total number of victims exceeding 50,000.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his new security team are planning an extensive ground operation in the Gaza Strip. They believe that the occupation and maintenance of a significant part of this Palestinian enclave will allow Israel to achieve a final victory over the militant Hamas movement. TASR reports this on the basis of Sunday’s US daily newspaper Wall Street Journal (WSJ) referring to unnamed sources.

“Netanyahu and a group of advisors listed in recent months argue that Hamas must be defeated on the battlefield by the power of weapons before any political solution to the fate of the Gaza band can be achieved,” WSJ writes.

Netanyahu and his new team, including Defense Minister Jisrael Kac and the Chief of the General Staff of the Ejal Zamir Armed Forces, according to WSJ, is of the opinion that last year’s military defeat of Hezbollah in Lebanon and the willingness of US President Donald Trump’s administration to support the renewed offensive against Hamas.

The daily notes that, to achieve the final victory over Hamas, Israel will also have to completely destroy the system of underground tunnels and other infrastructure facilities, which may take several months or even years. The opponents of Netanyahu’s new strategy are convinced that eliminating Hamas will not be possible without a political conflict settlement.

After two months of relative peace, the situation in the Gaza Strip raised again after the Israeli army 18 launched a new air and ground operation against Hamas. Netanyahu’s office justified this by the fact that Hamas refused the proposals submitted by the mediators and the special envoy of US President Steven Witkoff during indirect interviews. The aim of the new operation in the Gaza Strip is to free all hostages.

Al-Jazeera, Qatar, reported that at least 51 Palestinians died in the last 24 hours as a result of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Gaza. According to the local Ministry of Health, the number of Palestinians killed in military operations since October 2023 exceeded 50,000.
