Low -Tagus Region on alert due to the high risk of floods and there are already isolated villages

The Tagus River caudals recorded a “considerable increase” due to the rain of the last days, with the passage of the depression Martin, and the discharges of the Spanish dams.

The low Tagus region is on alert due to the risk of flooding. Alviela’s Reguengo village is isolated and there are floods in various areas of Santarém district.

By early morning, the river had already shifted the banks, leaving several strokes of roads in the municipality of Golegã cut.

And despite the civil protection warnings, there are those who risk crossing and those who come to evaluate the situation.

Over the hours, with the gradual rise of water level, agricultural land has been flooded, and access to Alviela Reguengo can only be done by boat.

The rain of the depression Martin has filled the dams, and it is now the discharges in Portugal, but also in Spain, which overflow the Tagus and disappear the river beach of Constância.

The eventual risk of floods is being accompanied by the Portuguese Agency of Environment, Civil Protection and Municipalities. Several places in the district of Santarém are already flooded, such as the parking lot and the Castelo de Almouol park.

Civil Protection asks that it is not circulated in flooded areas and advised the removal of animals, agricultural equipment or vehicles from zones that, over the years, are flooded whenever full.
