European World Cup qualifying groups are defined. The keys were known on Sunday after the definition of UEFA League Commitments. Key heads, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, Croatia and France now know their opponents with an eye on the World Cup that will be held next year at the triple headquarters of Mexico, Canada and the United States.
The 54 European teams were divided into 12 groups. From A to F, the 34 teams with the best performance in the League of Nations were drawn. G groups to L had 5 teams instead of 4. The matches will be played between March and November. The 2026 World Cup will be the first in the format of 48 teams. Thus, UEFA vacancies rose from 13 to 16. The first places of the 12 European qualifying groups will be directly classified to the World Cup, while the second placed will play the playoffs.
