A Scottish tourist has suffered serious burns in a gas explosion in Rome, the Italian prosecutor’s office is already investigating the causes of the accident.
A 54-year-old tourist was seriously injured on Saturday when a three-storey pension in Rome collapsed after the gas explosion, the local authorities said on Monday. The Italian Prosecutor’s Office has begun investigating the responsibility and causes of the misfortune, TASR reports on the reports of ANSA and DPA.
The explosion occurred on Saturday around 8.30 am CET in the Roman district of Monteverde. The injured Scott Grant Paterson was pulled out of the ruins of the building by conscious. He suffered third -degree burns on about 75 percent of the body, reported Roma Today news portal. According to available information, it is treated in the Roman Hospital of St. Eugena.
Roman Mayor Roberto Gualtieri also visited the scene of the disaster. “The important thing is that fortunately there are no victims, although one person was unfortunately seriously injured,” he said.
The British Foreign Ministry said it was communicating with the Italian authorities. “We support the British citizen family who was hospitalized in Italy, and we are in contact with the local authorities,” the spokesman said.
The Italian police have already listened to several witnesses, including the owner of the guesthouse in order to find out the cause of the accident. Social networks show that Paterson arrived in the Italian capital last week.
