Access to the Algarve under the reinforced Surveillance of GNR due to the Superbike World Cup

GNR will intensify from this Tuesday the inspection of drivers of motorcycles on the highest traffic intensity roads, with special attention in the accesses to the Algarve because of the “World Superbikes 2025” in Portimão.

Operation “Moto I”, which starts this Tuesday and ends on Sunday, aims to contribute to the reduction of road accident, ensuring traffic fluidity and supporting all road users, explains GNR in a statement.

It will pay special attention to patrolling and inspection on the Algarve access roads due to the 2nd round of the Superbike World Cup, which takes place between Friday and Sunday, at the Algarve International Race Track in Portimão, Faro district, predicting a significant increase in traffic.

During the year 2024, 7,739 road accidents involving vehicles from two to motor wheels were reported, resulting in 118 deadly victims (about 30% of the overall total), 693 serious injuries (about 36% of the overall total) and 5,530 mild injuries (about 21% of the overall total).

In the note, Guarda recalls that “drivers of two -wheel -wheeled vehicles can be considered a risk group, as the consequences of accidents are usually more serious, taking into account the lowest protection capacity in case of collision or disappointing.”
